January 2014 - July 2015
Interact explores the place of the viewer in contemporary art.

Contemporary art exhibition of the Courtauld Institute of Art, London.·

The Courtauld is an independent college of the University of London, and one of the world’s leading centres for the study of the history and conservation of art and architecture, and its gallery houses one of Britain’s best-loved collections.

WAR FLOWER 1 smells to gunpowder and is the newest olfactory artwork made by Peter De Cupere.

The East Wing Biennial is the student-organised contemporary-art exhibition of The Courtauld Institute of Art, London.
Based at Somerset House,

INTERACT: Deconstructing Spectatorship will seek to challenge pre-existing, traditional and even new perceptions of viewers and their place. A conceptually-driven exhibition, the eleventh installation in the East Wing Biennial series will once again provide the opportunity for young curatorial minds to work with contemporary artists. The artists of INTERACT will play with the role of the spectator: some invite them to interact with the works (and draw attention to this interaction) in order to realise and overcome this preconceived role, whilst others pose different questions and terms of reference. The Courtauld Institute’s environment at once becomes an international representation of contemporary art. At the same time, an encounter with art which, through engaged spectatorship, conscious interaction is brought into a position of prominence.

The East Wing Biennial is held at the Courtauld Institute of Art in the North Wing of·Somerset House. The exhibition is well served by public transport and is within walking distance of many of the capital’s other major museums and attractions.
